Sometimes, I just get a hankering for coloring in a big area in with regular graphite pencil. When I sketched a few simple plant shapes in the sketchbook, I ended up framing them in like this. Over the course of a few hours, I filled the background with an Edward Gorey-inspired interior scene.
At about 70% of the way through the pencil work, I wondered seriously if all the cross-hatching was going to be worth it. However, I’m so happy with how bright the plants look against the background. Sometime soon, I want to do a more carefully-finished version of a drawing like this!
