I recently jumped on board Doodle Addicts, which is a really nice, low key community for artists. One of the things that they have is a weekly drawing prompt that you can submit to at any time. It’s really open-ended and low pressure, which means that I don’t get distracted from my “big projects”. Every time last week that I felt the need to step away from the my deep concentration on linework, this doodle was there. I could just sort of scribble on it to get the jitters out of my system. It. Was. Awesome.
Prompt: Draw your astrological sign using any method or medium in Galaxy Colors. Well, two out of three criteria isn’t too bad (I think I maybe cheated the “galaxy colors” part a little). I am still plugging away at digitally “inking” line work, which involves a steady hand and concentration, so I used this prompt as an excuse to play around with drawing/painting in Photoshop. The “soft light” layer blend mode is my new favorite thing.
