Varsity Croquet

graphite and digital sketch

I recently had a blast playing croquet and other lawn games at a summer party, and it reminded me of a phase I had last year where I drew a few croquet-inspired things in my sketchbook. This one is probably my favorite, and shows a few team members on an imaginary version of croquet that lives in my brain. Before a week or so ago, I had a rather loose idea of the rules of croquet, based mostly on Alice in Wonderland and a version that I played with a friend as kids where each color had a special “move”. In my brain, varsity croquet would be a sort of mashup of field hockey and miniature golf, or life-sized pinball – mostly because I think that would be the most fun to illustrate.

In the studio, I continue to plug away on the computer. This week is a genuinely exciting week of prototyping stickers and packaging. More on that coming soon!
