Today I’ve got a couple of drawings from the sketchbook this past week that I particularly like- and just in time for Halloween, with some seasonally appropriate sorts of colors. It has finally decided that it’s fall where I live, here at the end of October, a chill has finally settled in. On the left is an experiment with graphite, watercolor, and some different pens. On the right, a Dungeons and Dragons style thief in felt tip pen. Both are edited a little in Photoshop to clean them up a little (and colorize the thief).
The gloomy autumn weather lead to me finish Philip Pullman’s Book of Dust: The Belle Sauvage this week. It somewhat inspired the drawing on the left, which started as a random doodle of a maze, and turned into something more elaborate. Now it includes watercolor and gouache, as well as touch ups in photoshop.
The thief was just a just a doodle based on the prompt “sneaky”. I thought of an old-school D&D rogue, and tried to capture him at just that moment when he’s dipping into the treasure before the rest of the party shows up!
That’s all for now! I’m going to spend the afternoon trying to stay awake so that I can do some prototypes.
