American toad – illustration in progress
I’ve put a little thought into what designs I want to make for my Etsy shop this spring, and one of them was “a good toad”. This lead me to draw a few toad illustrations this week, of various levels of silliness, during my sketchbook warm-ups in the morning. Eventually, one of them kind of caught my fancy.
I decided that he was perfect. Or, like, good enough to move forward, which in art is pretty much the same thing.
I wanted to mimic colored pencil digitally, something that I find pretty hard to do in Photoshop, personally. Still, I want total control over the background for the next steps, and that means finishing on the ol’ computer. I decided to take the personal challenge.
Over the last two days, his home is really starting to fill in in the background! I think that I’m going to need at least two more sessions of several hours each with this piece until it’s ready for anything. After that, though, I’m pretty excited to play around with the art on my product templates. He might make a debut on a notebook cover.
