Mixed Media, 2023
Today’s piece came together over several days last week, working with gouache over watercolor. I wanted to paint some colorful, expressive summer flowers, and contrast them against something a little more structured and precise. I chose a couple of antique food tins, drawing from some real designs that I used for a recent mini project.
Here’s the process, from watercolor underpainting, to the last day when I added the final details. I finished the design just a little bit in Photoshop with a cream background a simple cross-hatched foreground.
Here’s the finished illustration, printed on greeting cards! They’re available right now on Etsy.
