This Halloween cat illustration in the sketchbook was pretty quick and dirty, but turned out really nicely for what was a quick one-hour exercise. It also feels great to get seasonal in my new workspace, even if I’m still technically settling in!
I’ve been printing up a storm this week. Today’s sketchbook page was started as I babysat the printer, next to an old decorative tin filled with supplies. That’s where I got my inspiration for this post. I just nervously started free-hand a flower like the one that looks so familiar sitting on my desk.
This tin is a comforting object to me. It’s something that I’ve always found pretty and it’s always been around, in my house growing up. My version looks more folk than orientalist. I’m okay with that, just focusing on filling the page up nicely rather than copying the tin.
This morning, I’m back to the printer, but I took some time to warm up this morning by adding some color. Since this is a double-page sketch I’m not going to use for anything else (except maybe as inspiration for a future project) – I went ahead and added some fancy metallic paint too. Just for fun.
