I started the week working on really graphic cartoon-style burger and sticker art, so my sketchbook warm-up this morning is the opposite, just for the contrast! This drawing is another in a series illustrating some Grimm’s Fairy Tales, this one showing a scene from the story ‘The Virgin Mary’s Child’. In the story, a foundling taken in by the Virgin Mary is entrusted with the keys of heaven and ends up seeing what she ought not see, and fairy tale things ensue.
There isn’t a lot that’s final about this stage of the drawing, except for parts of the keyring. I didn’t clean up the right side of the page in Photoshop at all before I posted it, so it’s obvious that I’ve tried all sorts of things for that area of the page, and I didn’t like any of them! There’s a door there, swinging inward, but that’s kind of all I know, and I want to give my attempts a rest so that I don’t ruin the drawing by erasing through the page.
That’s all for now – I’m back to work on cheeseburger postcards, and today is prototyping day! Hooray!
