I started today’s sketchbook page by taping off a sheet, and filling the background area with a gradient made with leftover paint. It was a mix of purple-y reds, a little dull medium green, and a bunch of lemon-y, greenish yellow, so I painted a gradient that covered the area with the yellowest hues in the middle. It inspired the fantasy “strawberry flowers” and the overall fruits and flowers color palette that I stuck with.
Since gouache dries really fast, this makes for plenty of practice time where I get to scribble with colored pencil before my timer goes off. My favorite part about this sketch actually turned out to be the scribbly clover and plant stuff on the bottom! I didn’t fuss at it, and sometimes I like the results better.
