I’m having a moment with pastels right now, and lavender in particular. Sometimes I get into a color the way I get into a song. When I have time in the studio, I just paint and paint with that one color until I work the mood out. Last month, it was blue. I had my own little mini “blue period”, filled with drawings of sleepy birds and blue vines and vases.
Right now, it’s like I’m ready for spring a couple of month early. I want to cover everything in softly colored flowers while the snow still piles up.
Today’s little watercolor is strong on nostalgia, something that I would have loved as a kid. It’s like a valentine’s card that I would have picked out when I was little in the nineties. I’m really pleased with the way this little painting looks after about three hours. I’m glad that I kept the color palette limited to pink and purple. Learning when to narrow my color palette is still something I’m working on, and when I have good days like this, it’s satisfying.
