This Halloween cat illustration in the sketchbook was pretty quick and dirty, but turned out really nicely for what was a quick one-hour exercise. It also feels great to get seasonal in my new workspace, even if I’m still technically settling in!
One of my resolutions for the year was to take more process photos. This is important for so many reasons, but one of them is that I want to include more in-progress photos here on the blog. I missed another post this past week, for the same reason: I’m so busy in the background on other exciting things that it’s been hard to take the time to come back here and write something about it! It’s easier, I found, to take photos of what I want to post next as I’m sitting right in front of it.

That’s what I wanted to do this year anyways! I want to post what’s actually sitting on my desk at the moment. Last week, I made myself a reminder to put on my desk, and I’ve been snapping pictures every day. Above, in my tiny sketchbook, I did a watercolor and gouache of some goldfish and used a little metallic paint for bubbles. The background is pale green in real life, but I had a difficult time with the rainy weather conditions to get to read in the photo.
I always put too much paint on the palette! My little goldfish exercise left me with a bunch of extra gouache on my gouache palette: big globs of red, red-orange, and cerulean blue. The next day, I started out with the aim to use it up, and painted some florals by adding a little white and dab of yellow.

I am back to super exciting work today, but I promise (absolutely promise) to be back soon with more exciting pictures of my desk. See you then!
