This is a painting exercise showing a little fantasy scene with a whole sheaf of made up foliage stuck in a cute little vase. That morning, there was a certain palette I really liked, I think a textile design I had seen somewhere, and I just did my own thing with those colors. With this painting, I wanted to stay loose, so I skipped a sketch altogether and focused on defining the shapes in watercolor and then building them up with gouache.
I continue to wonder where gouache has been all my life.
