A Fate and an Owl

graphite, mica watercolors

Last week has been gray and cold, the snow falling, thawing, and freezing again with hardly any sunshine in between. That means that I’ve spent more time on the computer, doing image editing. It’s good, I’ve gotten a lot of work done.

Today’s pieces are more from my tiny sketchbook. I produced them last month when the weather was similarly cold and gray. On the left, I made a sketch from a section of an old classical painting showing The Fates of Greco Roman mythology. I can’t find the painting I flipped to today, but I believe that this figure was supposed to be Lachesis, “the allotter”, the matron who measures out the thread of Fate.

On the other side is a loose drawing of an owl from the bookends close to my desk. Really, it was an excuse to play with some shimmery watercolor. The shame is that it doesn’t scan very well, but it’s so much fun to paint with!
