I did a little travelling earlier this week, so I’m back with a double feature. I’ve been continuing with a lot of small gouache sketches and studies. It’s such a quick-drying medium that you can cover a really satisfying amount of space pretty quickly! Since I’ve been working hard on other projects, I’ve been keeping my morning warm-ups on a timer.
The first is a quick little painting of an early spring landscape, with crocuses and snowdrops, and forsythia trees in the background. I wanted to paint something that looked like the end of March on one of the first days where it really feels like spring. It’s pretty small, since I painted it for a purpose – it’s going to go into a little wall niche to decorate for spring.
Because I missed my first post this week, I also wanted to include the sketch I recently finished in my little book of color palettes! It includes a lot of the same colors from the landscape painting, but arranged into something that has a big retro 1970s feeling; something that might have starred in a kitchen with avocado-green appliances. While I’m not super into decorating an entire room around this scheme, there’s something about this palette that does make me really happy, especially around this time of year when the sun just starts to come out.
