Today, after dealing with a whole bunch of non-art related, real-life stuff, I sat down and finished this drawing that’s been in the sketchbook for a really long time. I think it mostly reached out to me because it’s happy and it’s simply about cute kids doing a flower dance. I’m in that sort of mood, and I’m waiting patiently to see the first flowers bloom where I am. Soon!
This drawing was a challenge because the base layer for all of the figures was a (more or less) even layer of Sakura Souffle gel pen. They have a shiny, 3D embossed effect, so I was testing them out, and looking for a way to use them that inspired me. This wasn’t it. However, I liked the drawing enough that I kept it in the book instead of covering over it. I’m glad that I did, because I do like what it turned into. I feel like every type of marker and pen that I have is in there somewhere, so if there’s an award for Variety of Media Used, this drawing is a contender.
