We got several inches of snow, so it’s been chilly in the studio this week, but it makes for wonderful painting light! Today’s sketch is a still-life practice based on a photo of an adorable floral teapot that has it’s own hand-painted design. I wanted to challenge myself to try to see if I could paint it in a few hours over the course of a couple of mornings, with the intricate pattern included.

As always, after I take a photo, I can suddenly spot a billion little things that bother me. I lost my shadow in the tip of the spout, for instance, and I can’t stop looking at it! But I’m happy about it as a practice piece, and as a color study it was nice to paint something with some pastels.
