I’ve been having so much fun in the studio lately that today I had to stop entirely and take a few hours to scan everything. Today’s pieces are more from my mini watercolor sketchbook back in December. Here, I’m playing around with felt tip pens over a surface of watercolor, keeping each composition monochromatic. The drawings are really loose, but ended up liking the way the two sketches look next to each other.
A ton of recent work has been in watercolor and gouache. Some of these are paintings just to fill up my library of textures: big areas of paint where I want to pigments to bleed together, or spatters or expressive brush lines. These are incredibly fun to make now that I’ve stopped worrying about “doing them right” and just experiment.
Below is the start of a birthday card that I’m painting digitally over one of these big watercolors. Most of these recent works are being turned into greeting card designs, like this one. My next post, later this week, will be more cute card art, with cats!
