I’ve spent a ton of time this summer trying to get my online shop up and running, which has meant a lot of time in front of the computer. Next year around this time, I hope I’ll be taking a picnic basket with plein air art supplies out to practice landscapes like this one.
This drawing was done with marker and colored pencil over brown cardboard. I actually used the cardboard backer left over from a watercolor pad for the surface of the drawing! Working over a tinted surface is my favorite method with colored pencils, so for me it was ideal. I drew it all the way last summer, but never posted it for some reason! I just assumed I had until the other day when I was looking at it with outdoor dreams.
This sketch embodies everything that I already miss about summer: the hazy sky, the wildflowers, and all of the green!
