Today’s post comes from yesterday’s sketchbook drawing, which I finished by adding a little background color to in Photoshop. The assignment I had given myself was to draw a non-narrative comic. That is, my goal was to present something in the typical comic-book-style format of cells, as if it could be read narratively, but then fill them up the space without introducing narrative. Themes emerged without me really trying: pins and needles, thread, home and domesticity. It was a really fun exercise, and it made me curious to explore inserting more miniature interiors into other drawings. They look pretty neat, could be symbolically interesting, and most importantly, are super fun to draw.
