This week, I did a bunch of image editing for big projects, which took up a ton of “sitting upright” energy. This colored pencil drawing from the sketchbook is what I worked on the in the meantime. It’s not finished by any means – someday I’ll probably go back to it and work it a bit more. I’m still building my colored pencil collection, so it’s fun to dip back into old drawings when I have new colors.
On the left is my reference photo, which I found somewhere on Pinterest, source unknown. I did the base doodle literally years ago now, but I feel like colored pencil takes a long time for good payoff, and I can be an impatient person. When I color a sketch like this nowadays, I usually tint big areas of the paper with marker to have something for the colored pencil to sit on top of, like the guy on the righthand side. But I also appreciate where this drawing is at right now because it’s so raw and unfinished and spring-timey! Pink and green is definitely my favorite color combo of the moment.
