This is a pretty old piece that I drew on Bristol board with various sized felt tip pens. I was originally going to use it to print onto paper for a book cover. I still might go along with that, or I might use it for something else entirely. Either way, I eventually want to do more “clock drawings”.
There’s something about really detailed old clocks that makes them fun to draw. Probably because someone who would have been able to afford a clock like this was ordering it mostly to impress people and spared no expense on the decoration front. That meant that the craftsmen who made them could go a little nuts and put angels, hippocampuses (hippocampi? Those weird fish-horses), nesting birds, naked babies AND livestock all onto the same piece. This is drawn from a photo of an actual clock, you can feel justified in putting all sorts of bizarre stuff on them if you want to just make up your own improbable historical clock.
