Beach Dreams

Watercolor of a woman in a green mosquito filled lawn holding a wineglass of lemonade, a dragon pool floatie around her waist.

I used this week’s Doodle Addicts prompt to practice with watercolor, and to work on something that’s not related to any ongoing project. I haven’t picked up watercolors in a while, because sometimes they really frustrate me. It’s hard to paint a nice, big, even field with watercolor. Hard. I do all sorts of things that would appall former professors in an effort to scrub out or cover up my mistakes.

But as you can see, I’m pretty shameless. This is a self portrait where the only requirement was sunglasses. I have used it to illustrate my current mosquito-y Michigan situation. I’m wearing my current favorite t-shirt (from the podcast My Brother, My Brother, and Me), and drinking lemonade out a wineglass because it tastes better that way.

Just like in real life, in this drawing I’m imagining how fun and great it would be to be at the lake. Do you know how fun it is to jump over a sprinkler while wearing a pool floatie? I don’t, but now I kind of want to find out.
