original gouache illustrations
Over the last very busy holiday weeks, I took a bit of a break posting my sketchbook work here, but today I’m back with a new design just in time for the holidays!
This year is the first holiday season since I launched my Etsy shop, so I wanted to come up with a festive winter design utilizing some illustrations of holiday evergreens that I painted in 2021. While they needed to some editing in Photoshop, I envisioned them layered into a detailed border.
There’s holly and ivy, mistletoe and pine, along with some jingle bells and scarlet ribbons. Because I wanted the reds to really pop, I finished the design with an emerald ink wash background.
I was excited to break out my calligraphy brush (in Photoshop) for the lettering in this project. I designed two options for a seasonal greeting, because I love lettering and options!
You can get these greeting card designs on my Etsy site now, starting at $4!
