It’s Pumpkin Time

doodles on watercolor paper with assorted markers and gel pens

Today’s post is from the new sketchbook that I shared last time. Small and compact, filling a page is no longer a multi-hour commitment each day! Sitting down to a blank white page each morning has suddenly become much less frightening.

My drawings to kick off fall are more sweet than truly spooky, though! I had an “off” day on Saturday, when I drew my pumpkin gang, and my felt tip markers bled when I layered them over highlighter. These guys make me smile, but I think that I colored the whole facing page black with Sharpie because I wanted to distract the eye! The drawing on top of the black is a mix of different sorts of gel pens. I always have issues with consistency when I use these, but in this case, the leaves and branches just ended up looking spookier. It was an accident, but it’s honestly one of my favorite parts about this page!

When I scanned this, I realized that it was perfect for an Autumn welcome banner for the blog! After popping it into Photoshop and making a couple of adjustments, I have the image for the front page. Behind the scenes, I’m waiting on paper delivery, and tomorrow I will be fussing around in Adobe InDesign, where I continue to learn the ropes. Hopefully soon, I will be showing off some homemade notebooks. Until then, stay cozy!
