Today’s post comes from a love of shop and bodega cats that my husband and I share. This pencil drawing is a gift for my husband, and features two of our three cats asleep on a bookstore’s outdoor table. The photo that was my original inspiration was taken in Venice, and although I did draw from it heavily, I changed a lot of things apart from the particular cats, including the perspective. Our sweet and naughty cats aren’t allowed outside, but if they were, they would probably love a sunny spot on top of some books!
Meanwhile, I’m tracing the line art for another botanical gouache design, the final in my series of four seasonal paintings. These are going to make nice stickers, but I have bigger plans for them as well: cover designs for hand bound books and notebooks! These paintings came together relatively quickly, and, just in time for me to start playing around with page layouts in Adobe inDesign. This means that experimenting with prototypes for hand bound notebooks and journals is just around the corner! I’m excited about it, so I’m going to get back to sketching.
